Bassett
Lowke LTD ( Great Britain) was probably the most
famous modelmaking firm in the World. The firm made all kinds of transportation models, but especially known for
it's railroad and shipping replicas. From 1908 to 1950s Bassett Lowke produced enormous amount of small
handmade wooden ship models of outstanding quality, mostly in scale 100 feet to 1" ( 1:1200 ) and fewer in scale 50
feet to 1" ( 1:600 ). Warships, ocean liners, cargo ships of many countries are represented in this range. These
models became the subject of wonderful book - Bassett Lowke Waterline Ship Models - written by avid collector
of these miniatures Captain Derek Head.
Scherbak
Ship Models carefully researches the methods of Bassett Lowke ship modeling and use the best of them. We have small collection
of these great replicas, including merchant ships and warships. Two of them are very rare and can not be found
in the Derek Head's book - since they were probably not a regular production units, but models made to special
order ( see pictures below ).
